Community

The advancement of knowledge is a collective enterprise that relies on the building of research communities. I am fortunate to have collaborated with a number of co-authors and to contribute to interdisciplinary networks centred on the North Atlantic Population Project, the Canada Century Research Infrastructure project and The Canadian Peoples/Les populations canadiennes project. The collective effort of scholars involved in these networks has contributed significant advances in the research infrastructure for history and social sciences across the north Atlantic world.

In recent years I have hosted workshops on topics such as economic and demographic change in Latin America, inequality and factor prices during globalization, the construction and use of longitudinal data and historical prison records. I have served on the editorial boards of Enterprise and Society, the Australian Economic History Review, Continuity and Change and the organizing boards for the Biographical Dictionary of American Economists, Canadian Association of Latin American and Carribean Studies, the Canadian Network for Economic History, the Social Science History Association and the International Economic History Association. Currently I contribute to the editing of two journals, the Asia-Pacific Economic History Review and Social Science History.

Within the University of Guelph I have contributed to the management of the Collaborative International Development Studies program, the Guelph-Saskatchewan Guatemala semester and the office of research and graduate studies in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics.
